Are you a software developer who has just started embarking on your software development career? Or a recent computer science graduate who has recently started a new job? Maybe a self-taught developer wondering what to do next?
I still remember the confidence I had when I completed my Computer Science degree. Having done well in my studies I thought I knew it all and I was ready to succeed in the software world.
That confidence all dropped in the first few weeks of my first job as a software developer. I realised there was so much about building software in the real world that I did not know about. It was a wake up call and a realisation that I was starting a whole new learning journey again.
University had given me a foundation but there was so much more to learn about the software world.
I was fortunate enough to have good mentors around me who patiently taught me a lot about building software in the real world as a team. Over the last ten years of my career I’ve often thought it would useful if software developers were better prepared for the real world. It is from that thinking that this newsletter has been developed.
The New Developer helps new software developers navigate the often challenging and complex journey of building a career in technology. The goal is to help new software developers prepare themselves for the real world - working in a real team at a real company.
The first “real” issue will drop in a couple of days. Stay tuned and for now you can forward this to your friends so they can sign up!!
